Community Cultural CentreZahari Stoyanov – 1984

About Us

The “Zahari Stoyanov – 1984” community cultural centre (chitalishte) was founded in 1984, and for more than forty years it has been the cultural heart of the Hristo Smirnenski city quarter in Plovdiv’s Zapaden district. Our mission is to nurture and share moral values, to foster creative talent, and to bring vibrant cultural and social life to the people of the neighbourhood. Through a wide range of cultural events and activities, we enrich the everyday life of our community by offering children, students and adults fulfilling ways to spend their free time via clubs, workshops and much more. Our team strives for innovation and new forms of cultural work, keeping pace with societal trends and the rapid techonological progress. One thing remains constant – no matter what new educational and professional methods we adopt, they remain rooted in spreading knowledge and enlightenment.

Over the years, our educational clubs have given hundreds of children their first taste of the magic of the arts through singing, dancing, and drawing. Young members broaden and enrich their minds and imaginations through the books in the cultural centre’s library. One of our newest clubs, which explores robotics and coding, has attracted remarkable interest by treating modern technology as a tool for personal growth and creativity. Our adult residents, meanwhile, find self-expression and companionship in the “Detelina” Women’s Club. With the help of our volunteers, we continue to improve and reorganise the centre’s grounds so that they are ever better in serving the needs of our visitors. As a result of the recent renovations, our facilities have been substantially upgraded and the community center now offers modern computer equipment that meets the expectations of today’s readers and guests.
